Besides being culturally relevant, the novel has taught me DOZENS of new words. So... Recommended? I'm only two and a half volumes in, though -- judge accordingly.

Do you have a recommended translation? I started reading the Project Gutenberg version of Swann's Way at some point, but then I stopped for some reason.

I'm currently reading this translation, a sort of mongrel version of the C.K. Scott Moncrieff translation you probably found on Gutenberg. The Modern Library box set I linked here is pretty good, since it's all seven volumes and a guide packed into six books, and has had two additional translators improve upon Moncrieff's work.
